Newborn Session Info
Please call before your baby is born to schedule your session. It will guaranty that everyone is prepared for session. It is so important to plan ahead. Capturing your newborn within the first 5-12 after birth, while they are still sleepy and curled up, can make all the difference in your images.
Since we never really know when your little one will arrive we will put you on our calendar to hold a spot for you. Please give us a call when your baby is born with their birthdate, weight and length. Then we will move your appointment accordingly. Babies are best photographed around 10 days, but this is dependent upon the weight. Smaller babies <6 pounds may be photographed around 12-14 days, and bigger babies should be photographed around 5-9 days. The idea is to have gorgeous newborn photos. If you are interested in all of the cute wrapped, squishy baby poses then you should want to come between 5-12 days. For umbilical cords I can pose your baby in a way to disguise it or show it proudly depending on your wishes.
If your baby came early or if your baby is already born, don’t panic! I will always do my best to fit newborns into my schedule and of course older babies take beautiful photos as well.
Length of Session
Newborn sessions generally take 2-4 hours. The exact day/time will depend on the baby. All babies are different. The session can go over or under the 2 hours, as I will not rush and allow for plenty of time. Newborn photography takes a LOT of patience. Every baby is different in how they handle being moved around when they are sleeping. As such, for the best outcome for your session please follow the Pre-Session Preparation list as best as possible.
All newborn sessions will be photographed at my home studio in Fuquay Varina, NC at no additional charge. You can also have your newborn sessions in your home. *Please note this services is offered at an additional charge for Basic Sessions, it is included in the Premium Session for no additional charge. This option is also available under certain circumstances, such as if Mama or baby are not medically able to travel. As mentioned above, we can bring props and items to your home based on your desired colors. Please contact me for more information.
I always want babies to be safe first and for most. With the many cute baby poses, please know that there is retouching involved on our end. I love babies as simple and natural as they can be, as such I will not be doing any posing that could potential be dangerous, ex. froggy, any parent arm balancing, etc. I also adore many cute modern poses but it is just not my style. We will only provide these poses upon request and can not be guarantee. Some babies do not wish to be put into un-natural posing. I love doing poses that make the baby the main focus of the image. Poses that show off their little (or sometime big, Hehe) rolls, their little finger and toes, their suddle facial features.
Clothing for the Family
I do encourage you to be photographed with your new little one. There is such emotion with the birth of a new family member, I wish to capture that moment. Family is everything. I welcome siblings, and parents in my Premium Newborn Package.
Preparation for Session
Feeding and Sleeping
I ask that you bring baby to the session in need of sleep. Try to keep your baby AWAKE for TWO hours BEFORE the session. A nice sleepy baby is best! I do understand that car trips can cause babies to fall asleep - just try your best. Plan to feed baby as soon as you arrive. Sleepy, full belly, babies photograph perfectly, so I will undress and swaddle baby before the feeding so as to not disturb them by undressing them after the feeding. We will take several breaks for feeding baby during the session, if need be, to ensure that baby is happy and has a full tummy. We ask that you not be too concerned with scheduled feedings during the session and that you feed baby on demand or when they get a bit fussy to ensure their comfort and a smooth session. Remember the session is only 2-4 hours.
With that being said, if you want baby naked, then at some point they will poop or pee! And it’s ok!! I am so used to it and it truly doesn't bother me – I will just grab another blanket!
I also put a pad protector on top of all equipment so please don't worry about the blankets or props. I also use a heater and white noise to help soothe babies – and I do have fan for the hot ones.
Newborn Session's and Circumcision
If you plan on circumcising your baby boy AFTER your hospital stay please make sure you schedule your session for BEFORE the circumcision. So please wait until AFTER your session to circumcise your baby!!! We will be tightly swaddling your boy naked in scarves and delicate fabrics. The fabrics are soft, however a fresh circumcision is very fragile and often uncomfortable for a newborn. When I wrap and unwrap, along with change his position or pose, the circumcision can become irritated even further which leads to a VERY unhappy baby who is not able to be photographed. I do not want to make your baby hurt or uncomfortable. Please note, I feel very strongly about this and I WILL send you home if your baby arrives at the studio and has been circumcised within 3 days of your session. Please contact me if you have any further questions.
